I-10: Soundwalls and Aesthetics

As part of the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane project in Baldwin Park, soundwalls are being constructed to reduce the noise emitted from the freeway. Caltrans cares about aesthetics too. The blocks used to build the soundwall were patterned after the scenic and rolling San Gabriel Mountains that can be seen from I-10.

This $165 million project is expected to complete fall 2011. The HOV lane will be added to reduce congestion, encourage carpooling, and improve air quality.
