If you use I-5 in the Santa Clarita area, we have good news for you! You know the truck lanes near SR-14? They’re about to get longer!
Caltrans this morning broke ground on a project that’s constructing truck lanes on I-5 in both directions between SR-14 and Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue. The northbound lane will go from SR-14 to Gavin Canyon, and the southbound lane will run from Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue to SR-14. In total, it’s more than five miles of new truck lanes.
The project, which costs $72 million, will take about two years to complete. The benefits will be worth the wait: reduced congestion, faster travel times, enhanced safety and more efficient goods movement. Plus, you won't feel like you're surrounded by trucks when you're driving, which makes some motorists uneasy.
Most of the work will be done at night to minimize the inconvenience to motorists. You can find lane closure information here and on the I-5 website.
