What is an Encroachment Permit?

An Encroachment Permit issued by Caltrans is permissive authority for the permittee to enter state highway right-of-way to construct approved facilities or conduct specified activities.  These permits are issued for a variety of activities ranging from litter removal under Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway program to utility work – and especially in Los Angeles County for filming commercials, TV series and movies!

Which reminds us to remind you that an encroachment permit for filming has been issued on Sunday, August 12 from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Eastbound I-105 (Glenn Anderson Freeway) near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).   This portion of the freeway will be FULLY CLOSED from Imperial Highway to the San Diego Freeway (I-405).  Detour signs will be posted.
