Four Level Interchange, Caltrans, Thomas Ritte
The historical Hollywood Freeway (US 101)/Harbor Freeway (I-110) interchange, aka “Four Level,” aka “The Stack,” aka “The Bill Keene Memorial Interchange,” will receive some needed sprucing up on Sunday, November 4, 6 a.m. to 12 noon.

The following lanes, connectors, and ramps will be closed:

Lanes: One lane of southbound I-110 will be closed between 3rd Street and Wilshire Boulevard will be closed from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Connectors:  Northbound US 101 to southbound I-110 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Southbound US 101 to southbound I-110 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Ramps:  3rd Street on- and off-ramp for southbound I-110 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
4th Street off-ramp from southbound I-110 will be closed 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.

To meet the challenge of statewide budget and resource shortages, Caltrans will perform a “swarm” or targeted maintenance operation with the US 101/I-110 by combining crews and resources from all over District 7 (Los Angeles and Ventura counties).  Over 160 Caltrans personnel with the assistance of community service workers will perform the following tasks:

  • To improve safety, road crews will restripe the roadway, replace lighting and signs, and enhance and repair guardrail.
  • To improve the aesthetics, landscape crews supported by community service workers will remove trash, litter, weeds, and graffiti, and repair irrigation, clean drains, mulch, and install new plants.
  • Department bridge engineers will also conduct routine inspection of the four level interchange.
  • Paint over the “Eye on ’84” mural by Alonzo Davis along southbound I-110 near 3rd Street. (This mural has been repeatedly tagged and vandalized over the years.  It will be relocated in the near future.)
