From the Archives: US 101 in Ventura County 101 Years Ago

Source:  Caltrans Headquarters Library
Pictured is the Rincon Road Causeway in 1912, which eventually became the Ventura Freeway (US 101), located just south of the Ventura-Santa Barbara County line.

The drivers and their passengers riding in the Studebaker-EMF 30’s (Everitt Metzger Flanders) automobiles are members of the Inyo Good Road Club’s Pasear Tour.  The club was a participant in the “See America First” advertising campaign which encouraged the development of national parks throughout the US in the early 1900s.
