Caltrans deployed 175 personnel and community service workers for “swarm” or intensive maintenance on Sunday, February 24 in closed sections of the US 101/I-110 interchange from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Crews were able to trim trees, remove debris and trash, install new LED overhead lights, and much more to enhance and improve the flow of traffic through the interchange.
Generally, crews only have a two-hour closure window within the US 101/I-110 interchange, by increasing the window to six-hours and placing dozens of personnel into one closure, crews are able accomplish several tasks all at once. This six-hour window reduced the necessity to close the interchange three to four addition times for two-hours.
