FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hollywood Freeway (US 101)/Arroyo Seco Parkway (SR-110) Interchange to Close for Swarm Maintenance

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will deploy 175 personnel and community service workers for “swarm” maintenance on Sunday, February 24 in closed sections of the US 101/I-110 interchange from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.  The closures will occur at the following locations:

Connectors
Northbound SR-110 connector to northbound US 101
Southbound SR-110 connector to northbound US 101
#3 lane of the northbound SR-110 connector to northbound and southbound US 101 (6 a.m. to 9 a.m.)

Ramps
Grand Avenue on-ramp to north- and southbound SR-110 and northbound US 101
3rd Street on-ramp to northbound SR-110

Motorist should expect delays.  Signed detours will be in place.

Generally, crews only have a two-hour closure window within the US 101/I-110 interchange, by increasing the window to six-hours and placing hundreds of personnel into one closure, crews will be able accomplish several tasks all at once.  This six-hour window will reduce the necessity to close the interchange three to four addition times for two-hours.

“With budget and resource cutbacks, we have to be innovative and find different ways to accomplish our mission,” said District 7 Director Michael Miles.  “By placing multiple crews into one closure we were able to make significant improvements to the roadway and landscape, enhance safety, and save on future costs.”
