I-5 HOV/Rosecrans – Bloomfield - Shoemaker Bridges Project
Caltrans will close Shoemaker Avenue between Rosecrans Avenue and Excelsior Drive in the City of Norwalk beginning on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. for approximately one year.  Construction crews will mobilize on 2/19 to begin nightly demolition work on the Shoemaker Avenue overcrossing.  Demolition will continue each weeknight for up to six weeks through March.

During the demolition work, Santa Ana Freeway commuters can expect directional full freeway closures nightly from midnight to 5 a.m., where only one direction of the freeway will be closed and one direction will remain open to traffic.  The on-ramps and off-ramps will be closed at Rosecrans Avenue and Firestone Boulevard, as well as freeway connector closures from the San Gabriel River Freeway (Interstate 605) to southbound I-5. Marked detours will be posted on Rosecrans Ave., Carmenita Rd., Alondra Blvd., Excelsior Dr. and Bloomfield Ave.

Other construction work during this initial phase includes the full closure of North Firestone Blvd. frontage road between Carmenita Road and Rosecrans Ave.  No ramps will be closed. The roadway between Gracebee Ave. and Loch Nevis Ave. will reopen in summer 2013, but the remaining segment will be permanently closed as part of the frontage road realignment.
