Santa Ana (I-5) Full Closure this Weekend

Full Closure:  Overnight, Saturday, October 19  from  1 a.m. to Sunday, 10/20 at 8 a.m.

Caltrans will fully close I-5 in Norwalk this weekend for a seven-hours  on the northbound and southbound Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) overnight Saturday, October 19  from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. (into Sunday morning 10/20) to continue working on bridge falsework (temporary wood structure support) for the new Shoemaker Avenue Bridge.   Freeway ramps will begin closing Saturday at 7 p.m. and freeway connectors will begin closing at midnight.  The new Shoemaker Avenue Bridge is scheduled to re-open spring 2014. 

Northbound I-5  Closed Ramps:    Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 p.m. to Sunday at 8 a.m.
                                                       On-ramps at Valley View Ave. and Carmenita Rd.

Southbound I-5 Closed Ramps:    Saturday, Oct. 19 from 7 p.m. to Sunday at 8 a.m. 
                                                      On-ramp at Rosecrans Ave.

Closed Connector SR-91/I-5        Overnight, Sunday, Oct. 20 from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m.
WB SR-91 To Northbound I-5:     westbound Artesia Freeway (SR-91) to northbound I-5
           
Closed Connector I-605/I-5        Overnight, Sunday, Oct. 20 from 1 a.m. to Sunday at 8 a.m.
SB I-605 To Southbound I-5:     southbound San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605) to southbound I-5                   
Northbound I-5                          Overnight, Sunday, Oct. 20 from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Closed Fwy Lanes:                    Full Freeway Closure from Carmenita Rd to Rosecrans Ave.
            
Southbound I-5         Overnight, Sunday, Oct. 20 from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.
Closed Fwy Lanes:          Full Freeway Closure from Rosecrans Ave. to Carmenita Road.                    
          
The schedule is subject to change or cancellation due to the nature of the work and inclement weather.




The work is part of the Rosecrans/Bloomfield/Shoemaker Bridges Project extending from Shoemaker Avenue to Silverbow Avenue, a distance of 1.2 miles. This project includes reconstructing three bridges at Rosecrans, Bloomfield and Shoemaker avenues, a pedestrian overcrossing at Silverbow Avenue, reconfiguring the ramps at Rosecrans Ave., upgrading and realigning Firestone Boulevard frontage road.  

The on-going construction on I-5 from Alondra Boulevard to Imperial Highway is part of the $1.6 billion I-5 South Corridor Improvement Projects to widen the freeway by adding one general purpose lane and one High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) or carpool lane, in both directions from the Los Angeles County/Orange County line to I-605.
