Major Northbound I-5 Closures This Weekend Between Valley View and Carmenita — EXPECT DELAYS!

Major closures this weekend of northbound I-5 between Valley View Avenue and Carmenita Road will make driving this section of freeway a major hassle. There will be significant DELAYS, so if you choose to drive it, don’t say we didn’t warn you. The closures will be in place Saturday, Nov. 16, at 12:01 a.m. to Monday, Nov. 18, at 5 a.m. We expect traffic to be particularly bad on Saturday, so please-please-please use an alternate route. Details:

Closed Continuously Throughout the Weekend

One of three lanes on northbound I-5 from Valley View Ave. to Carmenita Rd. (except during full closures when ALL northbound lanes will be closed — see below)

Westbound SR-91 to northbound I-5 connector

Northbound I-5 on-ramp at Valley View Ave. (closes Nov. 15 at 8 p.m.)

Northbound Full Freeway Closures

Saturday, Nov. 16: 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Monday, Nov. 18: 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Southbound I-5 will be OPEN during the closure. Detours will be posted. Here’s the construction zone map:

More info about the closures is here.

When the closures end Monday morning, you’ll notice these improvements:

Restriping: Three northbound lanes from Valley View Ave. to Alondra Blvd. will be re-striped and shifted to the right (east).

New On-Ramp: A new temporary northbound I-5 on-ramp at Freeway Dr. in Santa Fe Springs that replaces the Alondra Blvd. on-ramp, which closed in June 2013.

New Intersection: A new signalized intersection at Alondra Blvd. and Freeway Dr. in Santa Fe Springs.

This work is part of the $110 million I-5 HOV Widening and Alondra Boulevard Bridge Project, which is constructing one carpool lane and one general purpose lane in each direction from North Fork Coyote Creek Bridge to Marquardt Avenue. The project also includes reconstructing overcrossings at Alondra Boulevard and North Fork Coyote Creek, and realigning and upgrading adjacent frontage roads. More info is here.
