Buena Vista Pile Driving is a Hit!

The pile driving operation at Buena Vista Street and Winona Avenue in Burbank is a HIT ... actually, make that 25 hits ... per foot. And each pile is driven about 40 feet into the ground, so that's about 1,000 hits per pile. The pile driving is necessary to widen the Buena Vista Street overcrossing to accommodate new carpool lanes as part of the I-5 Empire Project.

The operation will continue through mid-February, but this week residents and businesses in the area get a break from the pounding as crews work on shoring, which is considerably less disruptive. The pile driving will start up again next week. In the meantime, if you're curious about what exactly pile driving looks and sounds like, check out the 10-second video below. This was shot last week at the pile driving site on Buena Vista.
