During large wildfires like these, Caltrans helps with monitoring roadblocks and providing traffic control. Then, when firefighters have extinguished the flames and hotspots, Caltrans takes on fire cleanup. Crews get to work on replacing guardrail and signage, removing dead trees and shrubs, and reintroducing native plants to prevent erosion.
