Segment of Empire Ave in Burbank to Close Temporarily Starting August 1

A short segment of Empire Avenue in Burbank is closing temporarily for bridge construction beginning Monday, August 1, 2016. The work is part of the I-5 Empire Project. (Learn more about it here.) Closure details:

WHAT’S HAPPENING: Starting Monday, August 1, 2016, through early November 2016, there will be a series of intermittent closures on Empire Avenue in Burbank between Wilson Avenue and Victory Place. Each closure will last for approximately two to three weeks. The closed segment will then open for a few weeks before the next closure is implemented.  Victory Place will remain OPEN. A signed detour will be posted. See map above.

WHY: These closures are necessary to complete bridge construction for the new Empire Avenue undercrossing.

CLOSURE/WORK HOURS: When the segment of Empire Avenue is closed, the closure will be in place at all times, day and night. Work hours will be 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., primarily Monday through Friday.

THE PAYOFF: When this work is complete, the west side of the new Victory Place bridge and pedestrian overcrossing will be OPEN, providing easier access to the Empire Center.

IMPACTS: Some construction noise is expected, but it will not exceed levels permitted by federal, state and local regulations. Dust will be controlled by water trucks.

ABOUT THE PROJECT: The Empire Project is a series of improvements to I-5 in Burbank between Magnolia Boulevard and Buena Vista Street, including: carpool lanes, elevated railroad tracks, reconfigured ramps, a new interchange and undercrossing at Empire Avenue, widening of the Burbank Boulevard Bridge, and more.
